About PTCC
PTCC is inspired by the Reggio Emilia early childhood education philosophy which honors the child as protagonist, teacher as researcher, and parents as the first teacher. Together, we are a strong, dedicated community. We are proud of the partnerships we have with families and we are always grateful for what each child teaches us through their learning. Peabody Terrace Children’s Center is committed to providing high quality individualized child care to an internationally diverse group. Our pedagogy respects even the youngest children as protagonists and active participants in their own lives and educations. Teachers are collaborators and co-constructors of learning with children. They observe children’s work, discuss with colleagues and families, and then offer children materials, ideas and experiences that extend their learning.
Children are invited to delve into their work for long periods, and to think in many different “languages” so that they can see their ideas from a variety of perspectives. We put relationships with people, environments, ideas and materials at the center of our work together. Our environments engage children, welcome them and their families, and tell the stories of our lives together. PTCC serves children ages 3 months to 5 years. We offer part-day, full- and part-week enrollment options. The center provides nutritious snacks, milk and diapers lunch is brought from home. Our licensed capacity within our three buildings is 81 children at any one time and a total of 96 children enrolled.

Director
DEBBIE TOMSHO
Debbie started working at PTCC in 1998 in the infant classroom, and joined administration in 2004. During her experience as an infant teacher she discovered and began to incorporate the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning. Debbie believes it an absolute privilege to be part of a community that considers teachers as learners alongside each highly capable and curious child. As a parent and an educator, Debbie is keenly aware of the importance and the impact that high quality child care has on families lives. When we interact, choose materials, set up environments, as well as offer experiences and dialogue for young children, every detail matters. Both of Debbie’s children left PTCC having a strong sense-of-self and important skills to recognize injustice in the world. The community resource that this early childhood center has been for her family has been invaluable. Debbie wishes that for every family and educator who spends time at PTCC. Debbie holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
